It's official. I can't wait until Unwind. I'm counting off days and thinking about all the things I am going to enjoy: great location, amazing line up of teachers and vendors, a Podcaster Meet and Greet (more on that in tomorrow's podcast) and all the knitters. It's going to be amazing.
I asked Dani to give us a little insight into the event that she has so loving put together and share some of the things we can look forward to. Here's Dani...
My name is Dani Sunshine and for the last 3 years I’ve been working as a yarn dyer
and knitwear designer under the name Lioness Arts. I can mostly be found playing
with colours in my workshop or knitting, when I’m not hanging out with my kids, and I
love to meet other knitters, hence starting the festival!
Why the name 'Unwind'?
Choosing a name was really hard! I wanted it to say ‘Come to Brighton, have a great
time, be inspired, meet and make new friends’.
Brighton is home. It’s a great little seaside city and I feel that the diversity and
vibrant artistic community make it the perfect place to hold a yarn festival. All we
need is sunshine to make it perfect! The venues are central and easy to get to via
public transport, and will really give visitors a feel for Brighton. I especially love
Brighton Dome Corn Exchange, where the marketplace will be held.
The most enjoyable part about organising such an event?
Can I pick two things? – Firstly, getting to know so many knitters. I’ve had the
pleasure of meeting so many creative people in person while organising Unwind,
and I hope to meet many more in July. Secondly, I’ve really fallen back in love with
Brighton. Putting Unwind together has reminded me what an amazing place my
home is. I think that can be easy to forget when you’ve been somewhere a long time.
The unexpected part or 'lessons I have learned'
Wow – I don’t think I’ve ever learned so much in such a short period of time. I really
had no idea what I was getting myself into!
What are YOU looking forward to the most?
Welcoming knitters to Brighton! It’s such a great place to visit, it’s impossible not to
have an awesome time here. There are so many things planned I couldn’t possibly
pick one – but right at this moment I am really looking forward to the party, which is
being organised by one of our sponsors – Pom Pom Quarterly!
If you had a magic wand and could make anything possible at your event, what would you add?
Are you kidding? It has felt exactly like I’ve had a magic wand and made my ideal
event possible… so I guess I would clone myself – so that I could take classes, say
hi to everybody, and have a lie in ;)
When it is all over, what will you be doing?
After tidying up you mean? Sleeping, followed by knitting!
Dani has very kindly provided 2 tickets to a talk of you choice for listeners of the podcast to win so be sure to tune in tomorrow for your chance to win. Have you seen the line up? You're going to want to win these tickets. Trust me.
A massive thank you to Dani for taking the time to answer these questions when she's so busy preparing such an epic event. Roll on Summer!
