“I find people fascinating and trying to capture any part of that? That’s just glorious” - Alexandra Cameron

Today, I’m sharing a conversation with Alexandra Cameron, a photographer based here in the UK whose work I discovered in 2017 and instantly fell in love with. She shares beautiful images but also powerful captions that explore issues really central to the experience of feeling like a woman and being a woman. I was hooked.

The great power of Alexandra’s work recently has been exploring the world of beautiful photography, shooting beautiful people and the double edged sword that is retouching and styling images in a beautiful way. She’s been really playing with that position she finds herself in and it was fascinating to talk to her and to think about the impact of these images from the viewpoint of someone who creates them. We often assume so much about that person. Here she is, talking openly about the harmful effects she felt and what she is doing about it going forward.

Alex kindly gave me permission to share some of her work on the shownotes for this episode and I would encourage you to fall down the rabbit hole that is Alexandra's work.

“No wonder we constantly feel constrained to look a certain way and probably feel lost in which certain way we [women] have to look because we are constantly seeing and reading comments about how women look." - Alexandra Cameron
